Islamic Calendar 2024 (Hijri Calendar 1445 / 1446)

The Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar, is a lunar calendar followed by Muslims worldwide. It has 12 months based on moon cycles. Because it’s shorter than the Gregorian calendar by about 11 days, Islamic dates shift forward in relation to Gregorian dates each year.

Months of the Islamic Calendar:

  1. Muharram
  2. Safar
  3. Rabiʻ al-Awwal
  4. Rabiʻ al-Thani
  5. Jumada al-Awwal
  6. Jumada al-Thani
  7. Rajab
  8. Shaban
  9. Ramadan (Month of Fasting)
  10. Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr)
  11. Dhu al-Qadah
  12. Dhu al-Hijjah (Month of Hajj)

Hijri vs. Gregorian Dates:

The Islamic calendar year is shorter than the Gregorian calendar year. This means Islamic dates fall on different Gregorian dates each year. The start of each Islamic month is determined by the sighting of the new moon.
