The ASPIRE Community Caseworker Training offered by MFBCS equips you with practical tools, confidence and the skills to serve as a volunteer caseworker. It is a multi-month training and volunteer development program conducted by senior caseworkers and social workers. You'll gain the skills to support individuals and families facing housing, employment, poverty and settlement challenges. With this training, you’ll step into a meaningful role, confident in your ability to guide and empower others toward self‑reliance.

What is ASPIRE Caseworker Training Program?

The ASPIRE Caseworker Training Program is a multi-month training and volunteer development program conducted by senior caseworkers and social workers.

The program begins with 3 days of mandatory online theoretical training, delivered live through Zoom. This theoretical component includes approximately 13 hours of learning and introduces participants to the core knowledge, skills, and values needed to support community members with compassion, professionalism, confidentiality, and care.

After completing the 3-day theoretical training, participants move into the practical training phase. This practical component requires approximately 2 to 3 hours per week for at least 6 months, with flexible timing based on caseworker team needs and participant availability.

To receive certification as an ASPIRE Caseworker, participants must successfully complete both the theoretical and practical components of the program.

What You’ll Learn

Through this comprehensive online training, you will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of case‑management in a community support context: how to engage clients, assess needs, plan interventions and monitor outcomes.
  • Build interpersonal and communication skills vital for working effectively with diverse clients, including newcomers and vulnerable individuals. 
  • Learn to apply tools and resources designed to assist clients in navigating housing, employment, language or settlement pathways.
  • Become part of the ASPIRE volunteer caseworker team, actively contributing to community self‑reliance and meaningful change for your clients.

Who Should Join

Ideal candidates are:

  • Residents of British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario who have lived locally for at least 12 months
  • Individuals willing to commit to volunteering actively with MFBCS after training.
  • Community‑minded people who want to support newcomers, families in transition and vulnerable individuals through guided outreach, case ‑ support and empowerment.
  • Those who want to gain experience, build skills, and make a positive impact while aligning with the ASPIRE program’s mission of self‑reliance.

Format & Logistics

  • Duration: 3 days of online training sessions. 
  • Mode: Fully online—join from home or anywhere with internet access.
  • Certification: On successful completion, you will be certified as an ASPIRE Caseworker.
  • Volunteering Commitment: Post‑training, participants must commit to actively volunteering with MFBCS as part of the caseworker team.
  • Locations Eligible :British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario.

Next Steps & Registration

  • Check upcoming session dates June 6, 7 & 8 and register early. Deadline to register is May 31st, 2026.
  • Submit required documents: resume, volunteer registration form and confidentiality agreement and commit to the volunteering component.
  • Prepare for the training by ensuring you have a reliable internet connection and a quiet space for the sessions.
  • On completion, you will get to join the ASPIRE WhatsApp volunteer cohort group and receive your certification once you a have done a minimum 2-3 successfully closed cases or actively volunteered for 6 months.
