Empowering refugee & low-income youth. Join us for a life-changing experience
Did you know that in Canada, one out of every five children lives in poverty? The Muslim Food Bank (MFBCS) Summer School Canada program is a shining example of an organization evolving its services to meet the needs of its community. For the past two years, the program has successfully provided academic support and cultural integration for elementary-aged children from low-income and refugee backgrounds.
The Summer School Program for Youth offers a range of benefits for students, making it a valuable resource for their academic and social development:

However, as the program entered its third year, MFBC identified a crucial gap – the need to support high school-aged youth. Feedback from parents of program participants highlighted a desire for similar services for their older children. Research also indicated that high school students could potentially benefit even more from such a program compared to their elementary school counterparts.
In response to this evolving need, MFBC revamped its program. The newly titled “Summer School Program for Youth” caters to high school students aged 13 to 18. The program will run for three days a week from early July to mid-August, focusing on core subjects like English, Math, and Science.
The revamped program offers benefits beyond just the students. Volunteers will gain valuable experience working more closely with their peers compared to previous years.
